Michael Sam, the first openly gay football star, made history when he
was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the 2014 NFL Draft.
He was officially NFL draft pick No. 249 in the 7th round, the second
to the last player picked.
The former Missouri Tiger began to break down on national TV when he
was picked, actually wailing aloud with his boyfriend by his side when
he received the phone call that he was going to become a professional
football player.
After he composed himself, the home he was awaiting the news erupted
in cheers as he screams as he hung up with the Ram and then kissed his
boyfriend several times.
According to ESPN analysts, the 6-foot-2 linebacker is expected to be
able rush he passer as well as plug the hole on the inside running
gaps. Jeff Fisher, the former Tennessee-Titan head
coach-turned-decision maker for St. Louis, was credited with making
the decision to pick up Sam.
Sam now replaces the charismatic Johnny Manziel as the biggest story
in an NFL Draft that broke ratings records.
Stay tuned for more coverage of Michael Sam and his future in the
National Football League.
